Check out the My Action Plan document to the right, developed to help disruptive students get to the bottom of their problematic behavior and take responsibility for correcting the offending actions.
According to The First Days of School, "A discipline plan based on rules has three parts - rules, negative consequences, and positive consequences" (Wong & Wong, 2018, P. 201). Along with that, I would add a fourth part directly after rules, action-assessment and reflection before consequences. By including a step for the student to self-correct, you give them the chance to identify their negative behavior and take responsibility for their own actions.
Listening to others, following directions, and completing assignments in a timely manner are just a few of the ways one can show respect to others in the classroom. In fact, students who compromises the education of their peers by constantly interrupting will be immediately referred to the behavioral chart below.
Simple and straightforward. Be on-time to every class, event, or meeting that is scheduled throughout the day. Being punctual is the first, and some say, most important initial sign of respect you can show to someone. By arriving on-time, you show others that you respect them and value their time.
If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all. The crux of value in the classroom. Every student, every teacher, deserves the safety to try, struggle, fail and succeed without fear of intimidation or judgment. Poor behavior will not be tolerated in any way.
If you see someone struggling, offer assistance. Whether it is a fellow student struggling with schoolwork or a teacher balancing paperwork, make yourself available to help.
